Together, Pen and Watercolor are an incredible combination to master. Learn both drawing fundamentals and color theory. We will cover many topics like color blending, complementary colors, color value, and pen techniques. Don’t worry, that’s just the technical description. How we’ll be learning all that is by applying color to people, animals, animated movie shots, our own illustrations, and much more.

Watercolor Paper 9×12 or larger (Canson or Strathmore)

Watercolor Paints (Koi or Windsor Newton Pan Set of 12 or more colors)

Round Watercolor Brushes–Sizes 7 and 2

Set of Microns or other Multiliner Pens (Varying Sizes)

Your first night of class will be about the basics of mosaic creation and after that, you will be able to take off at your own speed to create your own mosaic masterpiece. $20 materials fee for Instructor due on the first evening of class.

Mixed-Media Collage – CLOSED

This evening class will focus on using a variety of materials to create an abstract mixed-media collage. We will create papers and stamps and collect print material from a variety of sources. We will learn and experiment with various art mediums and when best to use them. We will utilize a variety of adhesives and substrates. Using what we have created and learned through experimentation, each person will create at least one mixed-media collage. $10 materials fee is due on first class.

Think you can’t paint? Think again. Find your inner 6-year-old and join me in my acrylic paint pouring class. You can create gorgeous, colorful paintings without using a paintbrush. It’s messy, lots of fun, and very satisfying. You will learn how to make the paint, and manipulate it on a canvas to make an unlimited number of designs and effects. There are endless creative possibilities thanks to different ways to combine acrylic paints and there’s something so satisfying about watching it spill across a surface.
Supplies you will need to bring:
3 to 5 – 8 x 8 or 10 x 10 Artist Loft’s canvases
2 – 8.45 oz. tubes of white ArtistLoft’s acrylic paint
3 to 4 (or more) tubes of your favorite colors

This 5-week classic course emphasizes the classic principles of drawing for any level artist. Doug will illustrate how to represent what is seen through the understanding of drawing tools, lines, shape, volume, mass, value, perspective, proportion, and positive/negative space. Students will work at their own pace from a shared still-life arrangement to gain maximum understanding and practice of learned concepts while building confidence and training the eye.

Beginners and Drop-ins ($25) are Welcome.
